Hello friends in this section we will provide notes for Instant messaging (IM) : Instant messaging is an online chat service using an Instant message application. In instant messaging, an electronic message is sent to a connection and it gets delivered n real time via the Internet and is therefore immediately available for display on the recipient's screen To send and receive a message in real time through instant messaging both sender and receiver should be connected to Internet and should be available online. Example: Google talk, Google Hangouts, Facebook messenger, Skype etc. some mobile based application like WhatsApp, Telegram etc. 

Unlike Email where message gets delivered to offline users, the instant messaging can deliver to users who are simultaneously online logged into the same instant messaging application. 

Key Feature of Instant Messaging :

• It is available 24X7. 
• It is available on multiple platforms.
• It can store unlimited chat history.
• Possible to create groups and chat with a group of people simultaneously.
• It provides option of replying forwarding  messages 

Common IM Application:

Google hangout:                                              Facebook Messenger

             Skype                                                    WhatsApp

     Telegram                              Pidgin                                   Adium

In this section we shall learn to use an instant Messaging client. You shall learn to work with Google Hangout client. Though the syllabus recommends Google Talk, but google Talk was discontinued in 2015 and Hangouts took over its place since. 

Chatting on an IM Client:

As mentioned we shall use the instant messaging client Google Hangouts for this session, let us quickly know what it is. Google Hangouts is a communication tool for exchanging text messages or video calls with your google Contacts, or make phone calls to just about anyone, it is available one various platforms like mobile devices, common web browsers, and desktop computers etc.

You can download Google Hangouts both for desktop computers and mobile phones.

For mobile download form Play store and for  Desktop download google chrome then go to chrome web store, and search google hangout and click Add to chrome

Signing in to Google Hangouts:

• Click or tap on Google hangouts Icon
• Click on sign in Button; in the Enter Your email Box enter your Gmail or G-suite email address.
• IT will open the google Hangouts windows and add your email contacts automatically.

Chatting with a Contact:

To Start chatting with a contact,

• Firstly you need to press the pus sign or click on the Message icon in the circle as shown in above figure.
• The either type the name of your contact or select contact name from the list shown 
• You may also start a group chat by clicking New Group.
• It will open a chat windows for the selected contact. Type your text message in the text box at the bottom to sent the text to your contact.
• Once done, you can close the chat window and Hangouts windows by Clicking the close button.

General rules and Etiquettes for Chatting:

You should know following rules and etiquettes for chatting.

• Start with a short greeting.
• Keep the conversation short.
• Use abbreviation sparingly.
• Use proper punctuation 
• Avoid Caps lock
• Keep Patience
• Be aware of the status message.
• End conversation with a short closing.
